Training Pathway:

To practice law in Chile, individuals must complete a Licenciatura en Ciencias Jurídicas (Licentiate Degree in Legal Sciences), a five-year program that includes comprehensive coursework in constitutional law, civil law, criminal law, and administrative law. The program also incorporates practical training, such as legal research and case analysis, to prepare students for professional practice.

Certification Requirements:

After earning their degree, graduates must complete a six-month professional internship, typically at the Corporación de Asistencia Judicial (Legal Assistance Corporation) or a court. Following the internship, they must pass an examination administered by the Corte Suprema de Justicia (Supreme Court of Justice) to obtain their professional title as Abogado (Lawyer). Once certified, lawyers may choose to register with the Colegio de Abogados de Chile (Chilean Bar Association) which upholds professional and ethical standards within the legal profession.

Continuing Legal Education (CLE):

While continuing legal education is not a requirement for maintaining a license, many lawyers opt to pursue postgraduate degrees, specializations, or diploma programs to expand their expertise and enhance career prospects.
